Founded in 1985, the Miami Open quickly established itself as one of the most ambitious tournaments on the professional tennis calendar. After its early years, the event found a distinctive home at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, where tropical surroundings, demanding conditions and world-class fields helped create an unmistakable identity.

For more than three decades, Key Biscayne became synonymous with Miami tennis. Champions from different generations competed there, and the tournament developed a reputation for producing memorable matches between many of the game's defining players.

In 2019, the Miami Open entered a new era when it moved to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.
