Monica Seles became the dominant young champion of the early 1990s with an unprecedented two-handed attack from both sides. She won eight Grand Slam singles titles as a teenager, nine in total, and spent 178 weeks as World No.1.
Monica Seles exploded into the elite with a high-intensity baseline style built around two-handed strokes from both wings. She won Roland Garros in 1990 at 16 and then dominated the majors, capturing eight Grand Slam titles before turning 20. Seles reached World No.1 in 1991 and finished both 1991 and 1992 at the summit. Her career was profoundly interrupted in 1993 when she was attacked by a spectator in Hamburg. After more than two years away, she returned in 1995, won her comeback event and captured a ninth major at the 1996 Australian Open.
