Martina Hingis became the youngest World No.1 in WTA history and one of the most tactically gifted champions of the modern era. She won five Grand Slam singles titles, 43 singles titles and spent 209 weeks at the top, later building another exceptional career in doubles.
Martina Hingis reached the summit of tennis with extraordinary speed. In 1997, at 16, she won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open and became the youngest World No.1 in WTA history. Rather than relying on overwhelming power, Hingis controlled matches through anticipation, placement, court geometry and tactical imagination. She won three consecutive Australian Open singles titles from 1997 through 1999 and spent 209 weeks at No.1. Injuries shortened her first singles career, but later returns produced an extraordinary second legacy in doubles and mixed doubles.
